ABOUT HERITAGE
Heritage is an independent professional depository of important documents, photographs, journals and periodicals, magazines, local history books and digital items. It aims at creating a new type of open, service-oriented and user-friendly archives in Bangladesh. Heritage focuses on the post-colonial period (1947 onward), but also welcomes older material. It concentrates on material produced by civil society but also include material produced by state institutions.
DR. MD. MAHBUBAR RAHMAN
Dr. Md. Mahbubar Rahman is a retired professor of History department in Rajshahi University. During his PHD journey, he felt the necessity of such an archive where people can find the resources to fulfill the research. keeping this thought in mind, he started collecting resources back in 2002 and established Heritage Archives on March 23, 2002.
Collections
About 30,000 periodicals, little magazines and research journals under 3095 titles, about 5200 posters, 5000 leaflets, about 10,000 books on 64 districts of Bangladesh, memoirs and anniversaries, 471 MPhil and PhD theses, tribals and Chittagong Hill Tracts have already been collected here. About 3200 biographies (including 572 biographies of Bangabandhu), About 1200 books on history and heritage of Bangladesh, about 500 political literature, etc. Heritage Archives has already received 67 collections of eminent persons as donations.
Besides, numerous books and documents on various movements, labor, women, political parties, student organizations, language movement, liberation war, school-college-madrasa memorabilia and anniversaries, newspapers, Vanguard and Ekta papers, paper clippings on 50 subjects. hundreds of Eid and New Year issues of daily newspapers, thousands of books on about 300 topics etc. have been collected here.

Things you should know
Research Opportunity
It currently remains open 3 & a half hours a day, from 9.00am to 12.30Pm. Three researchers can work together. For financial constraints it can not provide much facilities to the researchers. Also It has two guest rooms for the readers. Only researchers can stay their at night only for the purpose of research.
Visiting Opportunity
Anyone can pay a visit to Heritage Archives for either research purpose or just visiting purpose. It Usually remains open from 9.00am to 5:30Pm and closed on Friday. But for special reason it can be open anytime of the day. Please Make an appointment with a phone call before making the final visit in the Archives.
SPACE AND SIZE OF HERITAGE ROOMS
