The Founder

DR. MD. MAHBUBAR RAHMAN

Dr. Md. Mahbubar Rahman is a retired Professor from the Department of History at the University of Rajshahi. During his PhD research, he recognized a significant gap in access to organized archival resources for scholars and researchers.
Motivated by this need, he began collecting historical documents and research materials in 2002 with a vision to create a dedicated archive that would support academic inquiry and preserve important records. This vision led to the formal establishment of Heritage Archives on March 23, 2002.
Since its founding, Heritage Archives has continued to serve as a valuable resource for researchers, students, and anyone interested in the social and historical transformations of Bangladesh.

Collections

Heritage Archives preserves a vast and diverse collection of rare materials that reflect the rich cultural, political, and social history of Bangladesh. The archive holds over 30,000 periodicals, little magazines, and research journals across 3,095 titles, along with approximately 5,200 posters and 5,000 leaflets. It also includes around 10,000 books covering all 64 districts of the country, complemented by memoirs, commemorative publications, and works focused on tribal communities and the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The collection features 471 MPhil and PhD theses, and more than 3,200 biographies. In addition, over 1,200 books on Bangladesh’s history and heritage, as well as more than 500 works of political literature, are carefully preserved within the archive.
